Hobert Wilbur Fisher

Hobert left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior, January 23, 2025. He was born in 1938 to Ben Fisher and Bertha Kirkpatrick in Waynesville, NC. He was 86 years old.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Forest Hill Memorial Park, with Pastor Sammy Allison Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at their home.

He is preceded in death by both his parents, his wife, Joann; his son, Bruce; two brothers, Bruce and Sammy Fisher; and a sister, Mary Fisher.

He is survived by his daughter, Annette Fisher Eggleston; a stepdaughter, Karen Lewis Davis (Duck); a sister, Mary Brazell; six grandchildren, Crystal Eggleston, Jason Lewis, Amanda Tomlin, Tiffany Gray, and April Smith; and seven great grandchildren, Kali, Cameron, Timmy, Anthony, Bella, Eli, and Penelope.

Hobert had a love for his Savior and was of Baptist faith. He attended Heaven’s Gate and made sure it was locked up tight every day. He enjoyed walking around the church yards and being the keeper of opening and closing the gates while he was able.

Hobert was an Army Veteran and served his duty in Germany.

He was a Superintendent of Davie Correctional Center and decided to retire when the center was closed in October, 1997. He was with the Department of Corrections for 35 years. He earned the reputation of being fair, professional, and was by the book and expected the same from his employees. He was awarded the “The Order of the Long Leaf Pine” by Governor Hunt in October, 1997.

Hobert loved the mountains, his hometown. He made several trips each year to meet his brothers to trout fish and bear hunt. He would help anyone that needed help. He stayed active until his stroke in December 2024.
