Holland Tussey

Charles Holland Tussey, 89, of Arnold Road, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center following a lengthy illness. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Beulah United Church of Christ, where he was a lifelong member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at their respective homes. Mr. Tussey was born February 5, 1924, in Davidson County to Arthur David Tussey and Lona Temple Tussey. He worked for Warner Stamey where he learned his craft of hickory smoked barbecue prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II from February 1943-1946. Upon returning from serving his country he owned and operated Tussey’s Drive-In, from 1948 to 1963, now known as Speedy’s Barbecue. Later he opened The Snack Shop on West Second Avenue, where he served his customers for the next 33 years. At his church Mr. Tussey was a lifelong choir member and served as an Elder and Deacon. In his earlier years he was a quail hunter and an avid Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Melba Sealy Tussey; brothers, Harold Tussey, Clyde Tussey and Ralph Tussey; and sisters, Sula Tussey, Clatie Nelson, Ruby Walser, and Jean Fouts. Surviving are sons, Tim Tussey (Judy) of Lexington and Robert Tussey of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Holly Farrell (Greg) and Bonnie Nicholson (Charles), all of Lexington; grandchildren, Ashley Tussey Dennis ( Mark), Brandi Tussey Mayes (Stephen), Bradley Farrell, Joe Farrell, Allie Nicholson, and Holly Nicholson; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Memphis and Bristol Dennis, all of Lexington; step-great-grandchildren, Kailey and Raya Dennis, both of Lexington; sister, Donese Leonard (Max) of Lexington; and brother, Dave Tussey (Lala) of Lexington.
