Hollis Benton Garner

Hollis Benton Garner, 93, of Ridgecrest Retirement Center, died Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Brian Alexander. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Garner was born April 11, 1915, in Davidson County to J. Burch Garner and Ruth Elizabeth Smith Garner. He was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church. He was retired owner/operator of Cotton Grove Broom & Brush Company. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Louise Smallwood Garner, who died May 11, 1988; five brothers, Donald Garner, Howard Garner, Herman Garner, Roy Garner and Eugene Garner; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Wayne Leonard. Surviving are a son, Larry Benton Garner and wife, Mary, of Morgantown, W.Va.; a daughter, Rita Leonard of Mt. Airy; five grandchildren, Ashley Benton Garner and wife, Allycen, Lori Leonard Starling and husband, Drew, Whitney Faust Garner, Mary Wesley Garner, Amy Leonard Reeves and husband, Tommy; and three great-grandchildren, George William Starling, Samuel Thomas Reeves and Charles Benton Reeves. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Center Hill Baptist Church, 3759 NC Highway 8, Lexington, NC 27292.
