Henry Hollis Wofford, 86, of Southmont, died Monday, June 15, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Stoners Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Pastor Billy Pearson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday, June 18, 2010, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.
Mr. Wofford was born May 1, 1924, in Davidson County, to Henry and Leora Owen Warfford. He served as a Staff Sgt. in the Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of VFW Post 3074. He retired from Duracell after many years and was the first Fire Chief of Southmont Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Warfford.
Surviving are his wife Roxie Carrick Wofford of the home; two daughters, Sylvia Garrish and husband, David, of New Bern, Susan Eanes and husband, Robin, of Lexington; four grandchildren, Jamison and Jennifer Garrish of New Bern, Amanda E. Benner and husband, William, of Lexington, Lindsy E. Lopp and husband, Joel, of Thomasville; five great grandchildren, Alexis Garrish, Jordan Garrish Cox and Carson Hollis Garrish, all of New Bern, Ryley Benner of Lexington, and Troy Lopp of Thomasville; brother, John Warfford of Southmont; and sister Gearldine Holmes of Southmont.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Moutain Vista Nursing Home in Denton for kindness and loving care given to him.
