Homer Lee Shipwash Jr.

Homer Lee Shipwash, Jr., 83, of West Center Street Ext. died Friday, December 6, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 4:00 PM at Paul’s Chapel Evangelical and Reformed Church, where he was a member, conducted by the Rev. Aaron Long. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Homer was born December 13, 1935 in Martinsville, Va. to the late Homer Lee Shipwash, Sr. and Louise Hardister Shipwash. The retired plant manager of the former Link-Taylor Corporation, he was a master craftsman of furniture. He graduated from Lexington Senior High School Class of 1954 and attended Wake Forest University. He was a Christian, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great -grandfather, friend and boss, changing the lives of so many by his giving spirit and love for others, and always made you smile, and never met a stranger. He was a small plane pilot, and enjoyed golf, fly fishing and fishing at the coast and participated in Senior Olympics. He was proud of his family and loved them very much.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jeanette Koontz Shipwash of the home; sons Skip Shipwash (Holly) of Lexington, and Brian Lee Shipwash of Cary; daughters Carol McCoy (John) of High Point, Sherri Elliott (Howard) of St. Augustine, Fl, and Jill Smith (Mark) of Kernersville; brothers Billy Shipwash of Eden, and Bobby Shipwash (Terry) of Apex; sisters Sue Arellano of Tenn, Kathy Land (Buster) of Reidsville, and Fran Fretwell (Tommy) of Greensboro. Also surviving are grandchildren Mandy Garren, Brianna Shipwash, Matthew McCoy, Austin Carlan, David Elliott, and Caroline Smith; four great-grandchildren; and his special dog Lexie.
