Howard Lester Wood, Sr.

Howard Lester Wood Sr., 85, of Yadkin College Road, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at his home. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Danny Finch. Mr. Wood was born Aug. 17, 1921, to William Henry Wood and Bessie Walser Wood. He was retired as a self-employed television repairman. Mr. Wood was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Lyon during World War II, and was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Conrad Wood and Billy Ray Wood, and a sister, Nellie Phillips. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ann Wood of the home; two sons, Dale Wood and his wife, Jan, and Howard L. Wood Jr. and his wife, Judy, all of Lexington; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at home, however the body will remain at Davidson Funeral Home for public viewing.
