Hoy Lee Michael, age 83, of Rockway Drive, Lexington passed away Friday morning (July 8, 2011) at Lexington Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, (July 11, 2011) at Paul’s Chapel United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Dave Ambroso and Rev. Jimmy Norred officiating. Burial will follow in Paul’s Chapel Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Sunday night at Davidson Funeral Home.
Hoy was born in Davidson County, May 30, 1928 to Ernest Edgar Michael and Effie Temple Michael. He was a Junior accountant with Quality Oil, Reliable Tank Line and a graduate of Draughn Business College in Winston Salem. He was a charter member of Paul’s Chapel UCC, the Men’s Brotherhood, Men’s Bible Class, Former Deacon, Elder and member of the Consistory and started the first Youth Fellowhip at the church. He was a charter member of the West Lexington Lions Club and was awarded the “Citizen of the Year” by the Lions Club. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post 3074. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joan Koonts Michael on March 1, 2009; three brothers, Cleveland Michael, James C. Michael and Harry Michael; three sisters, Arlene Sink, Inez Shoaf and Mary Shoaf.
Surviving are; one son, David Charles Michael and companion Gail Walker of Lexington; one daughter, Lee Ann Alvarez and husband Jesus of Mexico; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister in law, Kathleen Michael of Lexington.
