Hugh Maurice Hampton, Jr.

Hugh Maurice Hampton, Jr., 67, of Callahan Hill Road, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Churchland Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Wilkes and Dr. Hunter Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends in the church following the service. Mr. Hampton was born November 29, 1946, in Forsyth County, to Hugh Maurice Hampton, Sr. and Lillian Woodworth Hampton. He was a graduate of Wake Forest University. Mr. Hampton was a Marketing Manager for the U.S. Postal Service and, earlier in his life, he was also a teacher and coach for a number of years at the Boonville Elementary School. Mr. Hampton was a member of Churchland Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and church historian. His church membership and his life were a testimony to his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior. Surviving are his loving wife, Becky Cooper Hampton; son, Hugh Maurice Hampton, III and wife Erin Owens of Clemmons; daughter, Katie Hampton of Charlotte; eagerly anticipated granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Hampton; and sisters, Laura Hampton Coker and husband Randolph of Tobaccoville and Jane Alice Myers and husband Keith of Winston-Salem. His was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, and his brother John Charles Hampton of Lewisville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Churchland Baptist Church, 7516 NC Highway 150 South, Lexington, NC 27295; or West Davidson Food Pantry, 4600 W Old US Highway 64, Lexington, NC 27295.
