Hugh James Roberson, 83, of W. Fourth Avenue, Lexington, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday at Forsyth Medical Center after declining health.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 30, from the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Robinson and Dr. Ray Howell, III. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Roberson was born March 7, 1925 in Colfax to Jim Roberson and Harriet Smith Roberson. He retired from Mr. R’s Showroom and Gibson Discount Center. He served in the US Army as a drill sergeant during World War II with the 3rd Platoon, Company A190, Infantry Training Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Houston Roberson, and a sister, Grace Peoples.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Faye McGuire Roberson of the home; two daughters, Lynn Joyner and husband, Doug of Kernesville, and Rhonda Day, and husband, Russell of Lexington; his grandchildren: Eric Barker and wife, Kerri, and Joseph and Mary Joyner; his special friends, Blanche Poole, Ruby Rowe, and Pedro and Janet Espino; Mepaw’s two special children: Matt and Sarah Espino; a special niece, Linda Smith, and other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of the grandson, Eric Barker, 353 Brinkley Drive, Lexington.
