Retired Superior Court Judge, Herman Webster “Butch” Zimmerman, Jr., age 71, of West Third Avenue, Lexington, passed away Thursday night (March 31, 2011) at Moses Cone Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday (April 5, 2011) at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Lee Zehmer and Dr. Lee Jessup officiating. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday night and at other times at the home. Butch was born in Davidson County, June 4, 1939 to Herman Webster “Doc” Zimmerman, Sr. and Winifred Ebelein Zimmerman. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served his country in the US Army with a rank of Captain. He was a graduate of Davidson College and Wake Forest University School of Law. In 1970 he was elected District Attorney and held this office until 1994, when he was elected Superior Court Judge for the 22nd Judicial District, after which he practiced law until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are; his wife, Harriet Jones Zimmerman of the home; two daughters, Nancy Findling Zimmerman of Winston Salem and Amanda Zimmerman Fulton and husband Chris of Lexington; one son, H.W. “Trey” Zimmerman, III and wife Maria of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Caroline Thomas Zimmerman and Elizabeth Crawford Zimmerman and Wilson Webster “Webb” Fulton; one sister, Winnie Zimmerman Craven and husband Dr. Scott Craven of Sparta; one brother, Dr. Robert Edward Zimmerman of Bristol, IL.
