Ione Herbert Hogsed

Ione Herbert Hogsed, 94 of Fairview Dr., Lexington died Tuesday July 12, 2011 at her home after a sudden illness. The funeral will be Saturday July 16 at 2:00 PM at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Groce officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the service. Mrs. Hogsed was born in Hayesville NC on September 10, 1916 to Frank Herbert and Pearl Sanderson Herbert. She attended the University of Georgia and settled in Lexington in the thirties and worked for the Red Cross & USO during WWII. She operated an arts & crafts business before becoming a homemaker in the fifties. She was very active in NC Women’s Republican Party and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William George Hogsed; brothers, Frank and Robert Herbert; and sisters, Martha Florio and Clara Hogan. Surviving are daughters, Libba Kennedy and husband, Pell, of Lexington and Rebekah Pollock and husband, Blair, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Chris Myers and wife, Anita, of Garner, Kalle Skurla of Portland, Sara Myers of Lexington, and Josh Skurla of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Michelle O'Reilly and husband, Trevor of Charlotte; and five great-grandchildren.
