Ira “Joe” Mclean Cook, 83 of Bethesda Road, passed away Wednesday, December
23, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. A funeral service will be held at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM with the Revs. Larry Michael, Wade Laughter and Dan Walser officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with military rites conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard.
Mr. Cook was born May 22, 1926 in Burke County to Grover Clevland Cook and Candice Smith Cook. He was retired from Western Electric and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple. He served during WWII with the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frankie Cook, daughter; Margaret Ann Cook; sister, Velma Stines; brothers, Stacy Cook, Max Cook; son in-law David Koontz.
Surviving are two daughters; Una Miller and husband Dale, Patricia Koontz and fiance Michael Bowers all of Lexington. A special nephew, Jerry Cook of Morganton, NC. Grandchildren; Lora Miller, Jeanne Surratt and husband Scott, Lane Koontz and wife Becky, Greg Miller and wife Emily, Jody Jackson and husband Keith. Great grandchildren; Charlie Goforth and wife Heather, Nikki Goforth, Jordan Koontz, Wesley Miller. Great great-grandchildren; Izabella Goforth.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 28, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.
