Irene Shelor Hooven

Irene Shelor Hooven, age 64, of Williams Meadow Lane, Winston Salem went peacefully home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Hooven was born July 1, 1952 in Patrick County, Virginia to Alden Shelor and Thelma Wood Shelor. She was a caring and compassionate nurse case manager who helped countless patients and families during her career. She retired from Forsyth Medical Center and spent her final years enjoying time with her family and traveling. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many, but her greatest joy came from serving as a loving grandma. Her kind heart and beautiful smile will be sorely missed by all those who were blessed to know her. Surviving are her husband, Bobby Hooven, of the home; her mother, Thelma Wood Shelor, of Meadows of Dan, Virginia; her daughters and sons-in-law Anne (Tim) Dirks of Colorado, Jennifer (Paul) Flury of Winston Salem, and Mary Beth (Stephen) Browde of Pittsboro; her nine grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters Charles Shelor and Cathy (Tom) Dalton of Meadows of Dan, VA, Daniel Shelor of Galax, VA, Dorothy (Eddie) Argenbright of Goodview, VA, and Lora (Mike) Shumate of Independence, VA. Mrs. Hooven was preceded in death by her father and an infant daughter, Debbie Ruth Hopkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Parkview Primitive Baptist Church conducted by Elders Eddie Fowler and E.W. Hooven. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8 at Davidson Funeral Home – Hickory Tree Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter on Elon Valley Drive, Winston Salem. A second visitation will be held from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at New Dan River Primitive Baptist Church in Vesta, Virginia with burial to follow in the church cemetery.Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
