Irene Elizabeth Swaringen Mabry, 88, of Alston Brook Nursing Center, formerly of Spruce Street, died Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Alston Brook.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Center Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Revs. Brian Alexander, Lamar Moore and Roy Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Porter Baptist Church Cemetery, Norwood. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Davidson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mabry was born June 6, 1925, in Stanly County, to John Grover Swaringen and Clarice Ruth McIntyre Swaringen. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William Arthur Mabry; and brothers, Lane and Lee Swaringen.
Surviving are sons, Harold Mabry and wife Glenda, and Charles Mabry and wife Deborah, all of Lexington; daughter, Ann Smith and husband Larry of Lexington; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, J.T. Swaringen and wife Judy of New London, Henry Swaringen and wife Sue, Gerald Swaringen and wife Janet, all of Albemarle, and Conrad Swaringen and wife Helen of Norwood; and sister, Ruth Kimrey of Albemarle.
