Iris Wood Bennett

July 19, 1925 — July 13, 2016

Iris Odessa Osborne Wood Bennett passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. A lifelong resident of Lexington, Iris, 90, lived most of her life on Woodcrest Drive. She will be remembered at a memorial service to be held at North Lexington Baptist Church, where she was an active member, at 11:00 am on Monday, July 18, with the Reverend Gavin Pratt and Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour preceding the service. As a dedicated nurse, Iris gave her time freely to those who needed advice or assistance. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and a woman of strong faith who served her church as Director of the Chancel Choir for 23 years. Singing in the Davidson County Senior Chorus and performing with the Davidson County Twirlettes expressed her love of music and sense of fun. Born in Davidson County to Jesse Lee Osborne and Blanche Louise Walden Osborne on July 19, 1925, Iris had a long career as a registered nurse. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Theodore Gilbert Wood, and her second husband, John Clifton Bennett, as well as her son, Barry Lee Wood, and three brothers: Carl Ray Osborne, Ozzie Osborne, and Bill Osborne. Surviving family members include her granddaughter April Wood White, great-grandchildren Gavin and Madeline White, all of High Point, two sisters, Peggy Butler and Mary Ann Osborne both of Lexington, and one brother, James Terry Osborne of Beaufort, NC, and her daughter-in-law Mary Carol Wood of High Point. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Home at High Point, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262
