Iris "Jody" Smith

Iris Jo Atwood Smith, a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with her Lord and savior while surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 01, 2017 at the Hinkle Hospice House.   A funeral service will be held at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 with the Rev. Bruce Morasco officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service and other times at the home.   Mrs. Smith was born in Davidson County on July 12, 1935 to Charles Aaron Atwood and Ruth Porter Atwood. She was retired from PPG and was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the United Methodist Women, and the willing workers Sunday school class. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Senior Lunch Bunch, and was a volunteer with Hospice of Davidson County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Carlis Smith; one brother, Daniel Atwood; and one sister, Eva Fritts.   Surviving are her 3 daughters; Karen Smith (Jerry), Kathy Miller (Jeffrey), and Pam Loveless (Jimmy) all of Lexington; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.   Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County at 200 Hospice Way Lexington, NC 27292 or to Mt.
