J. D. Sink age 92, of Winston-Salem went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning at Forsyth Medical Center. A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday January 9, at 3:30 p.m. at Faith Missionary Alliance Church where he was a charter member, conducted by Pastor Michael Gates. Burial with military honors will follow in Faith Missionary Alliance Cemetery. The family will greet friends Thursday 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service, and other times at the home of his son, Mark, 9001 Ronald Ave. Lexington. Daddy was a very unassuming man whose life revealed his inner strength, which was a result of his faith in Jesus Christ. He was committed to God, his family and his country. JD enjoyed hunting with his bird dogs, playing golf and spending time with family and friends. He was affectionately known as “Pop”. Greta and J.D. loved their church family and attended regularly until their health declined. The church family brought much comfort to him during his illness. J.D. was born in Davidson County on July 02, 1921, the son of Thomas Arthur Sink, and Lula Livengood Sink. He was retired from Western Electric Company, was a charter member of Midway Fire and Rescue, and served in the US ARMY during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hilda Swain Sink, June 1957 and his wife Greta Holcomb Sink January 2012; sons, Ralph Leon White III and Paul Marcus White; brothers, Coy, Fonzo, and Lake Sink; sisters, Francis Smith, Grace Fritts, Elizabeth Hilton, and Ruby Thacker. He is survived by a son, Mark Alan Sink (Amy); daughters, Lynda Gray White Jones (Richard P. Sr.) and Marsha Sink Koufman both of Winston-Salem; his daughter in law, Beverly Bowen White of Belmont and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family has requested any memorials be directed to Midway Fire and Rescue, 228 Midway School Road, Lexington, NC 27295 or Faith Missionary Alliance Church, 1077 Gumtree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Heritage Woods and the palliative care nurses at Forsyth Hospital for their kindness and their loving care. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
