J. Wayne Garner

June 28, 1946 — September 4, 2018

Mr. J Wayne Garner, age 72 of H L Palmer Road, Lexington, NC died Tuesday, September 4 at Accordius Health.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 8 at Holloways Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Danny Leonard and Rev. John Taylor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will see friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM Saturday at Holloways Baptist Church and other times will be at the residence on H L Palmer Road.  Mr. Garner was born June 28, 1946 in Davidson County to Van Buren Garner and Willie Mae Smith Garner.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and where he was employed as  music director, organist and pianist for many years.  He was a former member of Holloways Baptist Church. He had attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and had worked as a florist for a number of years.  Wayne is survived by a first cousin that he loved like a brother, Reggie Smith and wife Delores; their children Lori Scarlett and husband Lance of Rutherfordton, Scott Smith and wife Andrea of Greenville, SC, their grandchildren Clay Smith, Lily Smith, Chris Scarlett and wife Cassie, Samuel Scarlett and Eli Scarlett; their great-grandchildren Rylan, Lincoln and Kashyn Scarlett.  Wayne is also survived by several other cousins. The family would like to thank Hospice of Davidson County and Lou Honbaier and Judy Grainger for their excellent care of Wayne.
