Mr. Von Edward “Jack” Everhart, 76, of Welcome, NC, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center after a sudden illness.
A funeral service will be held at 4PM Wednesday, January 6 at Center United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Stephen W. Pillsbury, Rev. Clay Morgan and soloist Carroll McDade. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Mr. Everhart was born March 28, 1933 in Davidson County to Walter Howard and Pauline Beeker Everhart. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He graduated from High Point College in 1959 and taught Driver’s Education at Lexington Sr. High School in 1958-59. Mr. Everhart worked with NC Probation and Parole from 1959 to 1974 and from 1976 to 1994. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for distinguished service. He also served as Chief Deputy of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department from 1974 to 1976. He was a charter member of the Welcome Lions Club and was currently a member of the Welcome Civitan Club. He also had served in the Welcome Volunteer Fire Department. His brothers, Glenn Everhart, and Charlie Everhart, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Link Everhart of the home; his son, Von Edward Everhart, Jr. and Hollye Robinson, of Lexington; his daughters, Lisa Huffman, and husband, Larry, of Hildrebran, and Dr. Denise Hedrick of Lexington; his brother Bruce Everhart, and wife, Elsie, of Lexington; his sister, Altheda Hedrick, and husband, Tommy, of Lexington; and his grandchildren, Ashley Pearson, and husband, Matt; Rachel Huffman, and Alaina Hedrick.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel and other times at the home.
