HEADING NAME: Jack Shaver
Lawrence E. (Jack) Shaver, Jr., 82, of Lexington, went home to be with his Lord Thursday, Nov. 6, after a 22-year battle with renal cancer. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Mon., Nov. 10, at First Baptist Church of Welcome, conducted by the Rev. Mark Blair, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. Mon. at the church until service time and at other times at the home.
Mr. Shaver was born in Forsyth County on July 10, 1932 to the late Lawrence E. Shaver, Sr., and Roberta V. Shaver (Franklin). A 1950 graduate of Hanes High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of First Baptist Church of Welcome where he was part of Senior Friends and delivered Meals on Wheels while his health permitted. Mr. Shaver was formerly a member of Konnoak Hills Moravian in Winston-Salem where he faithfully served as an Elder, head deiner, usher, and Sunday School superintendent. He looked forward to fishing every Wednesday with best friends Paul Chenoweth and Tommy Sowers. He retired from Lucent after 39 years in Quality Assurance and was a member of the Pioneers.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Shaver was preceded in death by his sister Dona Jean Mills of Clemmons.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Bettye; son, Dean Shaver (Leisha) of VA; daughter, Marcia Shore (Dennis) of Midway; a sister, Ginger Watson (Bob) of SC; grandchildren, Philip Singleton (Darcie) of Winston-Salem; Emily Wommack (Joel) of Charlotte; Marissa Shaver of CA; Cam and Grant Shaver of VA; Challie Monk (Andrew) of SC ; Jake Shore of Midway, and three great-granddaughters.
