H.L. Jack Varner, 82, of Country Club Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
A private service will be held today at First Baptist Church Chapel by Dr. Ray Howell III and the Rev. Tommy Wilson. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Varner was born in Davidson County April 11, 1924, to Ernest Elwood Varner and Ora Fritts Varner. He was owner-operator of Jalan Enterprises, a member of First Baptist Church on West Third Avenue, a Mason in Lexington Memorial Lodge 473, Scottish Rite Mason in Winston-Salem and Oasis Shrine in Charlotte. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Landa Perry Varner of the home; two sons, Barry Lloyd Varner and his wife, Sarah, and Ed Ward and his wife, Kathy, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Todd, Sherri and Zack and Andrew and his wife,Katie; one great-grandchild, Annie; two brothers, Donald Varner and his wife, Olean, of High Point and Billy Varner and his wife, Peggy, of Lexington; and one sister, Libby Markham of Lexington.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.
