Jacob 'Joby' Byerly, Iii

December 20, 1957 — September 30, 2019

Jacob ‘Joby’ Olin Byerly, III, 61 of Lexington passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, October 4, 2019 at Pilgrim Reformed Church with Pastor Richard Moore officiating the service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour before the service at the church.

Jacob was born on December 20, 1957 in Davidson County to Jacob Olin and Avril Sink Byerly, who preceded him in death.  He was employed as assistant librarian at Lexington library and a long time self contractor for the US Forestry Service and was a member of Pilgrim Reformed Church.  He was an avid collector of books.  At the time of his stroke, in 2013, he had collected 5,000 books.  They were neatly ordered, according to author, which in his house, was an anomaly in itself!  After his stroke, he donated those books to Grace Bible College.  Most of his life revolved around reading and writing and teaching it to others, via Davidson County Community College and the Lexington public library.  We will miss our brother and his exceptional mind forever.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lady Zöe Banfield, of Hilo, Hawaii; brothers, Kingsley Shay Byerly (Vilma) of Huntersville, NC, Mattley Thorpe Byerly (Ellen) of Lexington; sister, Kelly Byerly Radford (Jeff) of Sumter, SC; Nieces and Nephew, Sadie and Rose Byerly and  Jayce Morris.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smart Start of Davidson County, Reach Out & Read program for Thomasville Pediatrics literacy program, 306 US Hwy 64 East, Lexington, NC 27292.
