Jacquelyn "Jackie" Ward Simerson

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Jeanette Ward Simerson, age 87, passed away March 1, 2024.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, March 4th, at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Family will visit with friends one hour prior from 1:00 to 2:00. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jackie was born March 4, 1936 on Second Street in Spencer, NC to William E. “Pete” Ward and Jewell Carlan Ward.

Jackie graduated in 1954 at Churchland High School and retired from Billings Freight Systems in 1998 after 12 years of service. From 1954 to 1958 she worked for Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Salisbury, NC as a local telephone operator and in 1977 she worked 8 years part-time for Ludwigs Carpet in Spencer.

Jackie loved playing the piano and especially for her church, she loved the Lord and all his children. She also enjoyed all types of sewing, cooking, and gardening.  She loved her 2 sons, 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Donald R. Simerson, her brother Grover Ward, her parents, and grandson Aaron Simerson.

Surviving are her sons; William “Billy” Simerson (Angie), and Douglas “Doug” Simerson, grandchildren; Jenny Brinkle (Jason), Cody Simerson (Hannah), and Jordan Simerson, and her great-grandchildren; Emma Jean Brinkle, Eva Lynn Brinkle, Ada Belle Simerson, Willow Mae Simerson, Finley Kate Simerson, and her sisters-in-law Millie Ward and Maxine Simerson Brooks.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Smith Grove Baptist Church, 3462 Sowers Rd., Linwood, NC 27299
