Mr. James William Carpenter, Sr., 90, of Lexington, died Thursday at Lexington Medical Center after declining health. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, May 19 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Brian Rummage. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM Saturday prior to the funeral service. Mr. Carpenter was born August 18, 1921 in Union County, NC to George Washington Carpenter and Winnie Burgess Carpenter. He retired from Dacotah Cotton Mills and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of US Army, serving during World War II. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 8, Amvets Post 13, and VFW Post 3074. His wife, Eunice Washburn Carpenter, preceded him in death, as well as his brothers, Paul Carpenter, Silas Carpenter, and Benton Carpenter; and his sisters, Ruth Ingram and Lula Hoskins. He is survived by his son, Jim Carpenter of Thomasville; his daughter, Carolyn Heitman of Lexington; his brothers, Jessie Carpenter of Hamptonville, and Rommie Carpenter of Kings Mountain; his grandchildren, Greg Dunn and wife, Anita, Julie Milner and husband, Chad, Jonathan Carpenter and wife, Katherine, Ruth Thorpe and husband, Glenn, Wendy Smith, Brandy Lambeth and husband, George, and Ron Smith; his great grandchildren, Laura Lang, Sean Dunn, Carsen Milner, Natalie Carpenter, and Finch Lambeth; his great great granddaughter, Ava Lang; and his sister in laws, Virginia Katen, Gloria Washburn, and Iris Mauney and husband, Tom.
