James Otis Cockrum, Sr.

James Otis Cockrum, Sr. age 87 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel with Pastor Hewey Parrish. Burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree. Mr. Cockrum was born in Hanes, NC in Forsyth County on January 2, 1927 to Dennis Friel and Laura DeHart Cockrum. He served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Cockrum retired from Air Conditioning Corp. and then became a proud employee of his son’s business, Sylvester & Cockrum. He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life since the 5th grade, his wife, Marilee Cain Cockrum (07/01/2010); brothers, Clarence and Charles Cockrum; a sister, Dot Steil and a daughter-in-law, Jane Cockrum. Surviving are sons, Steve Cockrum (Priscilla) of Mt. Airy, James O. Cockrum, Jr. of Winston-Salem; daughters, Lynn Snyder (Jim) of Mocksville, Jeanne Spach (Edwin) of Mocksville, Barbara Haralson (Bill) of Greensboro; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Davidson County Senior Services, 211 W. Colonial Drive, Thomasville, NC 27360. A special thanks to his devoted friends, Sam Jones and Sam Trivette, and the health care providers in the ICU and Intermediate Care Unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
