James Harlis Denton age 88 passed away early Monday morning, August 31, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Lexington.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Parklawn Memorial Park with Preacher Clyde Akers.
The family will receive friends 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.
James was born in Burke County on February 19, 1927 to John Denton and Arty Watson Denton. He served in the US Army during WWII and had worked at Southern Bell – AT&T and was a member of Griffith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David Ronald Denton (08/25/2015), a daughter, Linda K. Tesh, brothers, John Smith and Roy Lee Denton, a sister, Lucille Smith Myers.
Surviving are his wife Emma Josephine Grant Denton; son, Jimmy Denton (Tracy) of Winston-Salem; daughter-in-law, Linda Denton of Myrtle Beach, SC; Six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
