James Gunter

James Winfred Gunter, 77, of Jones Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at Sunbridge of Lexington. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Oak Forest United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. Jacqueline Tookey. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park with military rites by Memorial Honor Guard. Mr. Gunter was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Henry County, Va., to James Richard Gunter and Lelia Ethelene Collins Gunter. He retired from Stroh's Brewery and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. His wife, Eleanor Gregory Gunter, preceded him in death Nov. 9, 2007. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stafford Gunter and Gary Gunter. Surviving are three sons, Wesley Gunter and Stewart Gunter of Winston-Salem and Everett Gunter of Massachusetts; three daughters, Teresa Gunter of Wilmington, Kathryn Snow of Winston-Salem and Amy Gage of East Bend; a brother, Milton Gunter of Danbury; three sisters, Shirley Custard, Anna Nichols and Elouise Wade, all of Virginia; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and at other times at the home.
