James Hudson

James Raymond Hudson, 92, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at his home in Greenbelt, Md. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Reformed United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church parlor. Mr. Hudson was born on July 13, 1918, in Davidson County to Raymond and Bessie Tysinger Hudson. He relocated to Washington, D.C., in 1938 and lived in that area for 72 years. He first had a taxi during World War II. He was also a founding member of a motorcycle club in Washington and then owned a truck with a major moving company, traveling throughout the United States for many years. At age 59, James had a major health problem; five operations failed to correct his eyes from which he became blind. At death, he had skin cancer on his face. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Arlan, Clifton, Hazel and Elizabeth. Surviving are a sister, Rachael Peabody of Rockville, Md.; a brother, John Melvin Hudson of Lexington; and many nieces and nephews and their families. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clifton Watt Hudson Scholarship, Catawba College, 2300 W. Innes St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
