James Cathell “J.C.” Leonard, age 72, of NC Highway 47, Lexington passed away Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Davidson Funeral Home with the Rev. James Messer officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in National Cemetery, Salisbury. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the funeral home.
Mr. Leonard was born November 16, 1939, in Rowan County, to Roy Cathell Leonard and Thelman Irene Pope. Mr. Leonard served in the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Navy he played baseball as a pass-time. He had been a fixer for Dacotah Mill and Cannon Mills prior to retirement. Mr. Leonard loved to fish and was of the Lutheran faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Lynn “Sis” Leonard; brother, Kenneth Wayne Leonard; and sister, Judy Leonard Beck.
Surviving are his son, Randy Cathell Leonard and wife Renee of Southmont; daughters, Dena Michelle Sandwick of Gallants Ferry, SC, Jamie Lee Wright of Tabor City, Tina Aldridge “Rosanne Arthur of Roanoke, Va, grandchildren, Caleb Leonard, Nichols Leonard, Channie Leonard, David Sandwick, Dustin Lee Sandwick and wife, Lauren, Olivia Arthur, Gabriel Arthur, Ray Boren and Chris Boren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Harry Ray Leonard of Tyro and Russell Leroy Leonard of Southmont; sisters, Nancy Leonard Crotts, Wanda Leonard Britt, both of Holly Grove and Sandra Hunger of Deleware, Ohio; and his loyal and faithful friends, Danny and Jane Stillwell.
