James (Jim) Covert Young

December 26, 1927 — November 6, 2010

James C. “Jim” Young, 82, of Lexington, NC, passed into eternal life on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the Henry Etta and Bruce Hinkle Hospice House in the company of his loving family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Jim on Friday, November 12, at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Lexington, with Father Al Gondek officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass at the church. Jim was born on December 26, 1927, in Flint, MI, to the late Francis Little and Laura Wendland Young. Jim attended Phillips Academy at Andover. Jim was a US Army veteran and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant., and was a member of American Legion Post 8. Following his Army service, Jim attended and graduated from the University of Alabama. While at the University of Alabama, he became a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon “Deke” fraternity. This was fitting for Jim because this fraternity’s foundation was based on a fellowship where the candidate most favored was he, “who combined in the most equal proportions; the gentleman, the scholar, and the jolly good fellow.” And that was Jim! Following his graduation from college, Jim moved to Atlanta and went to work for Mauk Forest Products as a sales representative. Through hard work and a keen sense of attention to detail, Jim eventually became the company’s president. Later, Jim formed his own company, International Forest Industries, and moved to Lexington, NC, where he settled and retired. We remember Jim for his joyful and positive outlook on life. He had many passions, but his greatest passion was his family and friends. In everyone he touched, he was truly a gift from God as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jim is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Juliet “Judy” Young of the home; two sons, Michael Young of High Point, NC, and Preston Young of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Laura “Wendy” Young of Houston, TX; one daughter-in-law, Dana Young of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Connor and Morgan Young of Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Nancy Bishop of Lexington, NC; one brother-in-law, James Bishop of Pineville, NC; and a loving pet dog, Samson of the home. Family members request that memorial donations be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church or Hospice of Davidson County. Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
