James Curtis Liner

January 16, 1947 — August 27, 2020

James Curtis Liner, 73 of Lexington went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 6th from 1 pm to 2 pm at Union Grove Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2 pm, with Pastors Dr. Ken Harris, T.W. Bailey, Dr. Harold Fletcher and Lomax Skinner officiating. This service will be live-steamed at : www.ugbconline.com. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing will be observed and masks are requested.

James was born in Davidson County on January 16, 1947 to Layton Liner and Mabel Walser Liner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son in law, David Haynes. He graduated from North Davidson Senior High in 1965. James was a Veteran of the United States Army Reserves and served America as a medic in the 312 Evac. Unit in Vietnam.  After returning from Vietnam, James began working at the family business that his parents had started in 1946 and after his dad retired he took over the ownership of Liner’s Shoe Store in Lexington. J ames loved working at the store-selling shoes, telling jokes, and sharing with others the goodness of God. James never knew a stranger. He was a friend to many and always loved to help others in any way that he could. Mr. Liner was a longtime member of Union Grove Baptist Church, where he loved his Pastors, his friends and served the Lord faithfully.

James is survived by his wife, Becky and his daughter, Stephanie--the two lights of his life.  James and Becky were married in 1972, just shy of 48 years. They were best friends and two peas in a pod. Where you saw one you saw the other. He loved Becky with all of his heart and Becky was very devoted to him and cared for James during his illness, with all the love and care in the world. James loved his daughter Stephanie more than life and always encouraged and supported her, teaching her to sell shoes, how to tell jokes and to be kind. No one could ask for a better husband or daddy.  James showed us all how to love others like Jesus.  James was an exemplary husband, father, Christian and friend and he loved the Lord. He will be missed here on earth but, he is praising Jesus in Heaven and we’ll see him again.
