James Richard Milner, Jr.

May 29, 1941 — July 29, 2015

James Richard Milner Jr., 74, of Lexington died Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Richard will be cremated, there will be a memorial service at Davidson Funeral Home, 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. David Langley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Richard was born in Miami Beach, Fl., to James “Punch” Milner Sr. and Wilma Chamberlain Milner. He was a retired truck driver after 43 years of service. May I say he enjoyed every mile he ever traveled. After his retirement, he enjoyed having coffee with other retired friends at Smiley’s BBQ to keep up with the town gossip. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Lois Milner of the home; son, Johnny Milner (Angie) of Southmont; daughters, Edna Melton (Tommy) of Linwood and Sheila Stone of Lexington; five grandchildren, Alicia and Casey Melton, Heather, Jonathan and Jacob Milner; two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Blake Milner; brother, Terry Milner (Becky); sisters, Glenda Pierce (Chuck), Judy Forrest; and of course his beloved little dog, Buttercup. Also want to mention he was well loved by his other family, “the in-laws”, Eddie and Becky Stepps of Lexington, Diane and Dave Hobbs, Cindy and Bill Kruse, and Lee and Kris Stepps, all of Chesapeake, Va. So to all the ones I’ve loved and friends I’ve met along the way, Here’s one more cup of coffee for the road.
