James was born April 27, 1949, in Forsyth County to Charles Edward Myers Sr. and Lucy Gray Rush Myers.
James was known to all as our beloved Jim or Jimmy, he was a faithful friend to everyone who knew him. He taught everyone who had the honor to be by his side during his final stages of his life how to leave this life with much dignity, grace, and gratitude. Jim fought the good fight and finished the race. He kept the faith, now is in store for him a crown of righteousness.
Jim enlisted in the United States Military during the Vietnam era and proudly served in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Polk, and Fort Bragg during his military career. Jim’s love of country and his fellow veterans were a meaningful part of his life that he cherished. Following Jim’s service in the Army, he was employed with Piedmont Airlines headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Jim was a skilled outdoorsman and hunter and enjoyed many years of hunting across the United States which included trophies of antelope, bear, and deer. Through Jim’s love of hunting, he became owner of Starlite Bluetick Kennels where he took great pride in breeding Bluetick Coonhounds and created an award-winning bloodline. Jim’s loyal companion Smokey was a testament to his hard work and dedication to his passion that he so dearly loved. Together they won Grand Night National Champion and appeared in numerous advertisements for Purina. Over time Jim continued to earn many other distinguished awards for his excellence in hunting and breeding. One of Jim’s proudest moments was when the University of Tennessee sought one of his prized puppies to be their college mascot which is known to be the most famous college mascot in the nation.
Jim’s love of life and adventuresome spirit lead he and his wife of forty-two years, Karen Lynn Myers, on numerous trips throughout the continental United States and beyond. They shared many fond memories of their times in Saint Kitts and the Bahamas as well as hiking in National Parks. Jim maintained life-long friendships and continued to make friends with everyone that he encountered whether at home or while traveling. Jim pursued everything that he did with meticulous detail and precision. He was quite the prankster, quick-witted, and never met a stranger. Jim is already missed and will remain in our hearts for eternity.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, brother Charles Edward Myers Jr.
Surviving are his wife Lynn Myers, sisters Patsy Myers, Teresa Myers, niece Michelle Myers, sister-in-law Dane Myers, along with cousins and many dear friends that Jim also called family.
