James Patrick Overly, 95, of Brian Center Nursing Home and formerly of West Sixth Avenue, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, after an illness of six months.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Near Calvary Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Jeff Walser and the Rev. Clarence Ballew. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery in Thomasville.
Mr. Overly was born March 15, 1913, in Pennsylvania to James Samuel Overly and Mandy Elizabeth Huffman Overly. He was retired from Parkdale Mills and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Overly was preceded in death by his parents and three sons, Clifton Overly, Carl Lawson and Johnny Lawson.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Snider Overly of Brookstone Nursing Home; two sons, Roger Lawson and his wife, Sarah, and Thomas Lawson and his wife, Margaret, all of Lexington; two daughters, Pat Cockerham and her husband, John, and Carolyn Walls of Lexington; as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the daughter's home on Beck's Church Road.
