James Purdee Reaves

James Purdee Reaves, 84, of Carolina Shores NC, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Wilmington.

A graveside with military graveside rites will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, February 16, 2024, at Westlawn Cemetery with Rev. Doug McGee officiating services.

The family will receive friends at 823 Enterprise Road, Lexington, North Carolina 27295, at other times during the week before the service on Friday if anyone would like to stop by.  They will also receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.

Mr. Reaves was born February 23, 1939, in Columbus County to Luther Purdee Reaves and Beatrice Lilly Miller Reaves. James was a member of the United States Army and served his country for 20 years and he also was employed with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 20 years. He enjoyed spending time traveling with his wife. James was preceded in death by his parents and a baby boy Reaves; two sisters, Bonnie Marshall and Becky Price.

Surviving is his wife, Helena Miller Reaves, of the home; two sons, Barry Reaves (Sheila) of Wilmington North Carolina, and Tony Reaves (Lisa) of Welcome; one daughter, Susan Yvonne Bowman (Kenneth) of Lexington; two sisters, Frances Phillips (David) of East Bend, Mary Knight of Booneville; 4 grandchildren, Shannon Tyson, Jessica Howell, Samantha Lane and Chris Bowman, and 8 great-grandchildren, Isaac Tyson, Joseph Tyson, Hopelyn Lane, Zayleigh Lane, Vivienne Howell, Vail Howell, Hunter Bowman and Calvin Boone.
