James William Samuel Sr., 66, of Heath Lane, Lexington, passed away Wednesday January 26, 2011 at Thomasville Medical Center after an extended illness.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Holly Grove Lutheran Church where he was a member, with Pastor John Mocko officiating.
There will be no public visitation.
Mr. Samuel was born November 7, 1944 in Waynesboro County, Virginia to his birth father Raymond Lee Samuel and Evelyn Montgomery Smith West. He was retired from Byrd Motor Lines and served in the US Army. He was a member of The Amvets Post #13, American Legion Post #8 and DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Mahoney and a father who raised him, John David West.
Surviving are his companion, Cathy King of the home; two sons, Jim Samuel Jr. of Thomasville and Dale Samuel and wife, Pam, of Archdale; two daughters, Delisa Fay Black and husband, Earl, of South Carolina and Brandy King of Lexington; two brothers, David West and wife, Susan, of Lexington and Frank Chandler and wife, Joan, of South Carolina; a special friend, Barbara Gaultney of Thomasville; and his beloved pet, Daisy.
