James was born on April 1, 1932 in Gaston County to Coy Sims and Ougness Gennette Goins Sims. James served in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He loved his country and was proud of his service. James was a hard worker and retired from the Dixie where he worked in the sanding room. He loved fast cars and his dogs and cats. He was married to his beloved wife Otelia “OT” for 67 years and he loved her dearly. His daughter Becky was a daddy’s girl and was the light of his life. His granddaughter Stephanie or to him “little ba-ba” was his little princess and he loved her greatly. James was the most giving person and he loved spoiling OT, Becky, Stephanie, his nieces and nephews. He was always willing to help those in need and he was a great example of someone who loved others the way Jesus tells us to. We are so happy to know that he is in Heaven with his OT and has a perfectly healed body and we will see him again. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Edith Otelia 'OT' Sims; his son-in-law, James Liner and his grandson-in-law, David Haynes; brothers Bob, Junior and William Hedrick; sisters Colleene Grant, Lucille Wilson and Doris Burleson.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Becky Liner, of Lexington; granddaughter, Stephanie Haynes of Lexington; many loved ones, a special caregiver, Peggy, and his furry companion, Fred.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27295.
