James Wade Surratt, 90, of NC Veteran’s Home, Salisbury, formerly of Southmont, died Tuesday, July 01, 2014, at WG “Bill” Hefner Medical Center in Salisbury.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Surratt was born July 14, 1923, in Davidson County, to Beverly Franklin Surratt and Clara Shirley Surratt. He was retired from Frank Ix where he had worked in the cloth room. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church where he was very active in the United Men’s Fellowship. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Floyd Surratt; grandson, Darin Surratt; brother, William Ralph Surratt; and sisters, Irma Alene Surratt, Lucille Wilson, Geraldine McDowell, Zona Floyd, and Letha Phillips.
Surviving are sons, Franklin Wade Surratt, Phillip Roland Surratt and wife Heather all of Southmont, and Daniel Andrew Surratt and wife Glenda of Denton; grandchildren, Angela Palmer and Brynn Surratt; and great-granddaughter, Ellie Palmer; step-grandchildren, Holly Jackson, Melissa Ragan and Timothy Jackson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Rowan County, 720 Grove Street Salisbury, NC 28144.
