James Alex Thomason

June 25, 1927 — July 19, 2011

James Alex Thomason, 84, of Becks Nursery Road, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bud Powell and Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the funeral home and other times 583 Green Meadow Drive and 634 Becks Nursery Road. Mr. Thomason was born June 25, 1927, in Davidson County, to Willie Lindsey Thomason and Ethel Purdy Thomason. He was retired from Thomasville Furniture. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeraldine Hedrick Thomason; brother, George G. Thomason; and sisters, Willie Mildred Bowen and Betty C. Hilton. Surviving are daughters, Jeanette Thomason Cooper and husband, Daniel, and Elizabeth Kay “Libby” Thomason Lopp and husband, Ronald, all of Lexington; five grandchildren, Stephanie Cooper, Christopher Cooper and wife, April, Jonathan Cooper and wife, Angela, Ronald Chad Lopp and Wesley Davin Lopp; three great-grandchildren, Crystina Berrier Lopp, Katelyn Cooper, and Kaden Cooper; two step-grandchildren, Cassidy Scott and Trey Scott; and sister, Sarah J. Moody of Lexington. The family would like to thank Darlene Burns for the last three years as caregiver, for her love and compassion and willingness to go out of her way to do anything for our dad. She called him “Pops” and he called her “little girl”. We would also like to thank Linda Martin for her willingness to help when needed. Thank you two wonderful ladies you will always be close to our hearts.
