James "Steve" Truell

October 31, 1932 — March 11, 2023

James “Steve” Truell passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Lexington on March 11 after some years of deteriorating health.

Steve was born to Watt and Amelia Truell on October 31 st , 1932.

Steve attended Pilot High School before joining the US Navy serving aboard the USS Mindoro from 1952 – 1956.  During that time, he married his high school sweetheart, and wife of 68 years, Margaret Conrad Truell.  After his military service, Steve began work at Siceloff Manufacturing of Lexington and then moved on to Bates Nightwear in Greensboro, where he was a Sewing Machine Mechanic for nearly 30 years.  After leaving Bates, he used his ability to repair most any electrical appliance for friends, family and anyone who called for his services.  He also spent much of his time during the Holiday Season every year making mint candies that were sold at local merchants in Lexington and given as treats for family and friends.  Pop, as he was referred to by his grandchildren, would always split his profits with them at their family Christmas celebration.

Steve and Margaret enjoyed visiting their local friends from Pilgrim Reformed Church where he was a member.  They also enjoyed traveling to their home in Emerald Isle, where they made many “beach friends” over the years.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jack Truell (Marie ~ deceased) and Kenneth Truell (Evelyn.)  He is survived by his wife, Margaret Truell and children, Rex Truell (Michelle) of Lexington, Brenda Truell of Emerald Isle, NC, Andy Truell (Faye) of Greenville, NC, and a sister Lynn Young (Don) of Fort Mill, SC.  Six grandchildren; Carlin Hampton (Joe); Maggie Ann McCabe, Jack McCabe, Falon McCabe, Reagan Truell and Hudson Truell.

Visitation will be at Davidson Funeral Home on Friday, March 17 th from 5:00pm-7:00pm and a Graveside Service at Pilgrim Reformed Church Cemetery on Saturday, March 18 th at 2:00pm.  Should weather not permit this service will be held in the Church Sanctuary.  Donations can be made to Pilgrim Reformed Church; (Steve Truell) 797 Pilgrim Church Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
