James "Jim" Walton

March 5, 1935 — August 7, 2025

James "Jim" Hulin Walton passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, North Carolina.

Jim was born to the late James Wilson Walton and Susan Kinney Walton. A proud graduate of Linwood High School, Class of 1953, he was a graduate of East Carolina College, he dedicated his life to education, where he made a lasting impact as a devoted teacher of over 36 years. Teaching mostly in South Carolina. Where he coached girls’ basketball.. Jim had a deep passion for sports and was an enthusiastic supporter of the UNC Tar Heels. He loved to travel and gamble and loved his dogs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Johnny Walton; sisters, Doris Strahan, Sylvia Patrick, and Jackie Carlton; and nieces, June, Sherri and Kathy.

Those left to cherish his memory include his nieces, Teddi, Terri, Tonya, Ann, Teresa, Debi and nephews, Todd, Mark, Rob, Jimmy, Christopher, Michael, and Randy.

Jim will be remembered for his sharp mind, kind spirit, and unwavering love for his family, students, and Tar Heel basketball.

A graveside service honoring Jim’s life will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM at Lexington City Cemetery, with Pastor Erick Goff officiating.


Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is honored to serve the family during this time.
