James Westmoreland

James W. Westmoreland Sr., 83, of Westover Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Lee Zehmer and the Rev. Randy Sherrill. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Westmoreland was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Iredell County to Samuel Jeptha Westmoreland and Lucy Kistler Westmoreland. He was a graduate of Mooresville High School. He was past president of the Optimist Club and past president of Men of the Church. At Second Presbyterian Church of Mooresville, he served as a deacon. Mr. Westmoreland retired after 25 years of service at Met Life Insurance Co. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Westmoreland was preceded in death by brothers Thomas, Carl, Gray and Eugene. Surviving are his wife, Rose Sherrill Westmoreland of the home; sons Jim Westmoreland Jr. and his wife, Rosetta, of Granite Quarry, and Robert "Bob" Westmoreland and his wife, Peggy, of Dunn; grandchildren Jeffrey H. Westmoreland, Sarah E. Westmoreland, W. Daniel Westmoreland and Katharine L. Westmoreland; and sister Carolyn Menscer of Murrells Inlet, S.C. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 586, Lexington, NC 27293.
