James Milton Whitman, Sr.

James Milton Whitman Sr., 91, of Conrad Hill Mine Road, died Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at National Cemetery, Salisbury, with military gravesite honors , with Tom Nussbaum and Kelvin Naef officiating. The family will receive s Saturday, September 27, at the home of his son, 2481 Old Linwood Road from 2 to 4 p.m. Mr. Whitman was born February 22, 1923, in Rowan County, to Pinky Alexander Whitman and Irene Dora Gentle Whitman. He was retired from Electrolux where he had been a salesman. Mr. Whitman had served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Moretz Whitman who died October 31, 2003; and brothers, Melvin Whitman, Meridith Whitman, and Roy Whitman. Surviving are son, James M. Whitman Jr. and wife, Monica, of Lexington; daughter, Jane Kepley of Lexington; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
