Jan Hunt Walser White

February 28, 1928 — December 9, 2015

Jan Hunt Walser White, 87, resident of Lexington, died on December 9, 2015, at Alston Brook. She was born February 28, 1928, to Ina Catherine Walser Hedrick and Grover Walser who preceded her in death. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Monday at First Baptist Church of Lexington. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. She is survived by her son, Lloyd Gideon “Chip” White Jr. of Lexington; granddaughter, Emily White Bryant of Asheville and husband Nathan; great-granddaughter, Caroline; brother, Bentley Walser and wife Barbara of Greensboro; two nieces Leslie Bolick, Amy Evans and husband Mark; nephew Jeb Walser; and five great-nieces. She graduated from Lexington Senior High School and attended Catawba College in Salisbury. Jan was always busy serving others. She worked at the Register of Deeds office for Davidson County, managed Claude’s restaurant, and retired as a florist/owner of Davidson Greenhouse. She worked tirelessly for the democratic party of Davidson County since age 14 and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a supporter of the American Legion Post 8. Jan was an avid sports fan and supporter of sports in Davidson County. You could find her at the American Legion baseball games, the Lexington High School football games, and watching her Carolina Tarheels play football and basketball. The best thing that ever happened to Jan was her granddaughter, Emily, whom she spent a lot of time with. Jan had many people in the community that were so special to her, the staff at Southern Lunch was her second family; and Mary Ellen Bowers Hinson whom she loved as a daughter. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Herb Lohr, Elsie Burnett and all of the staff at Southern Lunch for all they did for her. Also a special thanks to the staff at Hospice and Alston-Brook. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Auxiliary Post 8, 8 Wilfred Avenue, Lexington, NC 27292; or Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292. Cremation provided by Davidson Funeral Home.
