Phyllis “Jane” Jones Barker 73 of Lexington died Saturday July 19, 2008 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, July 23 from the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Ray Howell III. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Jane was born on July 25, 1934, in Lexington to Howard Hillary and Harriette Saylor Jones. A lifelong resident of Lexington, she attended Lexington High School. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington and attended Psalm 91 church. She was also a member of Chapter 98, Order of the Eastern Star. Jane had a deep desire for volunteering. She volunteered her time for Salvation Army, Lexington Prison Ministries, and VFW, among others. She was a homemaker and loving mother. She was very passionate about her children. She lovingly helped cared for her parents throughout the years. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Lee Barker.
She is survived by four children, Richard “Ricky” Howard Cannon of Lexington, Lucinda “Cindy” Cannon McDonald of Kernersville, Libby Kaye Barker Fink and husband, Gary, of Churchland, and Johnny “Shane” Barker and fiancée, Jane Elizabeth Cockerham Beck, of Lexington; two grandchildren, Patricia “Kelsey” Beck and Johnny “Brandon” Fink; and three sisters, Norma Jacqueline Lanning of Greensboro, Barbara Jean Jones of Lexington and Hillary Harriette Rhodes of Lexington.
Jane’s family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to Jane Beck for her compassion and companionship during her illness.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 N. Main Street, Lexington and other times at the home of Libby and Gary Fink, 3544 Simerson Road, Churchland, to honor our Mother’s life.
