Jane Marie Hoover

March 25, 1961 — March 25, 2026

Lexington

Jane Marie Hoover finished her fight on March 25, 2026, on her 65th birthday, surrounded by love, laughter, stories, and the people who meant the most to her.

A celebration reception and visitation for Jane’s life will be held on Thursday April 2nd, 2026 from 6 o’clock – 8 o’clock in the evening at Sapona Golf Club in Lexington, where family and friends will gather to honor her and celebrate her the way she would’ve wanted.

Born on March 25, 1961, in Guilford County, North Carolina, Jane was the daughter of Harold Wayne “Coach” Hoover Sr. and Mary “Frances” Rich Hoover. She was raised in Lexington and spent her life rooted in the community she knew and loved, including First Baptist Church of Lexington.

Jane was a graduate of Central Davidson High School and Lees-McRae College. Jane worked hard throughout her life and gave her all in everything she did. She had a natural way of making people feel welcomed, cared for, and known. She was also a devoted caregiver to her mother during her battle with Alzheimer’s, showing the same strength, patience, and love she gave so freely to others. She loved to cook and was always trying something new—sometimes those experiments didn’t turn out quite how she planned, but that never stopped her. She kept a clean house and made sure the yard was done—she liked things in order and made sure everything was taken care of.

In her own way, Jane was always trying to grow and be better. She wanted to use her voice more—not just for herself, but for others. She had a huge heart and loved deeply. She didn’t always say things the softest way—but she always said them honestly, and she always meant them with love. Jane showed up for people in real ways, often putting others before herself and never hesitating to take care of the people she loved. That was who she was: someone who kept showing up, kept learning, and kept loving people well.

Above all, she was a mother, “momma”. She loved her children and their friends fiercely, protectively, and without apology. Her love was strong, steady, and unwavering—always showing up, always there when it mattered most. She was also a proud grandmother, and her love for her grandson, Cayden, brought her so much joy. He held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment she got to spend with him and watch him do what he loves.

Jane was a fighter in every sense of the word. A stage 4 breast cancer survivor, she faced battle after battle with strength, grit, and determination. Even when cancer returned, it never took her spirit—she fought hard, but she also loved just as hard. She had an undeniable spark—full of life, personality, and just the right amount of sass. She could make you laugh, tell you exactly how it was, and love you all at the same time. That was her—strong, full of life, and truly one of a kind.

In her final days, we celebrated her—just like she deserved and remembered the moments that made her her. Even at the end, she was surrounded by love, and that love will carry on as she is now reunited with her parents, “Coach” & “Frances” Hoover, along with her grandparents.

Those who carry on her love and light are her three children, Jordan McCarthy, Taite McCarthy, and Jackson McCarthy who meant everything to her; her beloved grandson, Cayden McCarthy, who brought her endless joy; her brothers, Harold Hoover (Margaret), Brad Hoover, and Kenny Hoover; and her sisters, Ann Hoover and Donna McDuffie (David), who shared a lifetime of memories with her.

She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Evan & Andrea Hoover (Maddie & Charlie), Will & Brittany Hoover (Mackenzie & Harvey), Abby McDuffie, Andrew & Hannah Hoover, and Kate McDuffie each of whom held a special place in her heart. She is also remembered by her lifelong friends, Jamie Lippard Bell (Allen) and Tammy Beck Carrick–friends who were and are more like family.

Though our hearts are broken, we are so grateful for the love she gave, the strength she showed, and the life she lived. She loved hard, lived fully, and never lost her spark—and that’s exactly how we’ll remember her.

The family and friends would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, staff, and doctors at Hospice House of Davidson County Hinkle Hospice House for the care, compassion, and dignity they showed Jane. Your kindness during her final days meant more than words can express. We are deeply grateful for the love and support you gave not only to her, but to our entire family.

Memorials to be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 in Jane's memory.
