Jane Yow Lanning

Jane Yow Lanning, 84, of Davidson County, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice House, with her devoted daughter by her side.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with a visitation to follow.

Jane was born on February 11, 1941, in Davidson County, to the late Charles Thomas Yow and Gertrude Barnes Yow. She worked for most of her life in the furniture industry and retired from Stanley Furniture.

She had a deep love for cooking, and her family will always cherish the memory of her delicious home-cooked meals, especially her famous chicken and dumplings. She also enjoyed tending to her garden, finding joy in nurturing life and watching it grow. Whether at the lake, the beach, or in the mountains, she found peace and contentment in the beauty of nature. Above all, she adored her family and treasured every moment spent with them. A woman of many talents, she was also a skilled basket weaver, creating pieces that reflected her patience and artistry. Her fondness for flamingos, her favorite animal, brought a touch of brightness and charm to her life, much like she brought to those who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Tom Yow.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Joe Lanning, of the home; daughter, Debbie Jane Shook, of Lexington; grandchildren, Taylor Shook (Brooke), and Corbin Shook (Kelsey); and great grandchildren, Trevor, Lily, Eleanor Jane, Eva, and Trace.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those with Hospice of Davidson County and Hinkle Hospice House who went the extra mile to give loving care to Jane and to the family during their time with them.
