Mrs. Janice Marie Pope Beck, 82, Lexington, went to be with her savior Wednesday, November 17 at Hinkle Hospice House, due to complications from ALS. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, November 20th, at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Thomasville by the Rev. Ricky Payne. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 10:00 am. Mrs. Beck was born August 15, 1939 in Guilford County to Leo Stamey Pope and Georgia Revelle Pope. She was a graduate of Allen Jay High School and retired from North State Telephone in High Point, where she worked for 31 years. She was a loyal member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ for 55 years and the Young at Heart Sunday school class. Her husband, Ernest “Buddy” Beck Jr., preceded her in death. She was an avid reader and a Braves fan for 30 years. She loved knitting, cross-stitching and crocheting and canning. She volunteered at Meals-on–Wheels for 20 years and was a member of Boomers of Lexington. She loved her North State family. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Suzanne Beck and husband, Richard Nance, of Lexington; niece, Cindy Davis and husband, Jay of High Point, and great-niece, Chelsea Ryan and husband, Mike of Greensboro.
