Janice Carol Koonts

Mrs. Janice Carol Leonard Koonts, 86, of Wildlife Road, died Monday, June 29, 2026, at Hinkle Hospice Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Mr. Ricky Leonard and Pastor Rowland Slater officiating.

She was born on January 30, 1940, in Davidson County, to the late Charlie William and Nancy Yarborough Leonard.

Mrs. Koonts worked at Belk Department Store in Lexington for over 15 years. She had a love for shopping and cleaning, and a true knack for being tidy. Mrs. Koonts enjoyed camping at the beach and family gatherings. Most of all, she cherished time with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Koonts; and two siblings, Evelyn Lopp and Paul Leonard.

Survivors include her son, Michael Koonts (Rosie); two siblings, Dale Leonard and Maxine Mock (Frank); four grandchildren, Kristen Harlow (Richard), Adriana, Feby, and Fena; a great-grandchild, Lula Koonts; and several nieces and nephews.
