Janice McNeill Welborn, 62, of Weaver Drive, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, by Dr. Lee Zehmer.
Mrs. Welborn was born in Robeson County on March 13, 1943, to Murphy McNair McNeill and Catherine McPhaul McNeill. She graduated from Red Springs High School, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Va. Before coming to Lexington she was the director of Christian education in Cheraw, S.C., and later at her church here. She also taught Sunday school, served on the Session and was a member of the Presbyterian Women. She was very active in Communities in Schools and served on the board of the Davidson County Community College Foundation. She was a member and former president of the Lexington Charity League and a member of the O' Henry Book Club. Her brother-in-law, Bill Welborn, and sister-in-law, Gerry Welborn, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, John H. Welborn of the home; two sons, John Henry Welborn Jr. and his wife, Monica, of Apex, and Daniel NcNair Welborn of Charlotte; one brother, Hugh McNeill and his wife, Peggy, of Raleigh; and two brothers-in-laws, Dr. James T. Welborn and his wife, Lillian, of Lexington and Dr. Samuel Welborn of New Orleans.
The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall following the service and other times at the home.
